However, Letty was not killed by the explosion. Brian was left to assume that she had died, as did Dominic and Mia. The explosion throws her into the underbrush, and Calderon left her for dead. As Calderon approaches intending to shoot her, he instead shoots and blows up the car after Letty crawled out of it. However, she was chased by Calderon who managed to flip her car, leaving her injured in the wreckage. However, after the job is complete, she realizes that the leader of the team, Fenix Calderon, intends to murder the drivers: she escapes in her car. Brian consequently puts Letty undercover with Arturo Braga as a driver running drugs over the US-Mexico border. After Dom leaves her, she went to FBI agent Brian O'Connor to clear Dom's name in order for him to return home. That night, the team chose to complete one final robbery so they could live more peaceful lives, Letty was apprehensive of the robbery. At Race Wars, Letty raced an ignorant driver and beat him for $2000. When Brian brought a trashed Toyota Supra to Dominic, Letty helped the team rebuild it so that he could race it at Race Wars 2001. After the race, Letty flees with the rest of the watchers when the police infiltrate the race, leaving Dominic behind and allowing for Brian to save him from being captured. That night, at a street race, Letty scared off other women who were turning their sights onto Dominic. Vince, being jealous, approached Brian and told him to stay away, resulting in a fight between Brian and Vince which was ended by Dominic. Letty raced Leon, Jesse and Vince and arrived at Toretto's Market & Cafe where they witnessed Brian O'Conner, an LAPD officer going under the disguise Brian Earl Spilner eating at the cafe and talking to Mia. This resulted in the LAPD turning their sights on the team. To fund their lifestyles and business, the team would commit various robberies of highway trucks transporting high end electronics which they would then flip for money. Letty also helped Dom run his precision auto shop. Letty followed in Dominic's footsteps and the two, along with Leon, Vince and Jesse, became proficient street racers in the LA Street Racing scene with Letty racing her 1997 Nissan 240SX.
